The Spoken Word

DIY Audiobook Project

Creating an audiobook adds animation to the traditional book publishing format. As the narrator can use cadence/accent/tempo/rhythm/intonation/noise/ to create evocative imagery and atmosphere right inside the listener's head; linking the inner and outer world.

Audiobooks are also an inclusive reading format, a historically adapted format produced to make reading more accessible for everyone. Audio recorded books are still the primary source of accessible material for people with print disabilities.

The Spoken Word is an inititative to bring audio format to small press and graphic publishing. Along with production, members meet to share resources for accessible adaptations to the book format.
